Reels for B2B Companies: Yes, It Works — Here's How to Do It Right

Most B2B companies have decided short-form video isn't for them. The reasoning: our customers are serious professionals making considered purchases. They're not scrolling Reels for entertainment. The reasoning is half right — B2B buyers aren't on Reels for entertainment. They're there for insight. And insight delivered in short video form works remarkably well.

The B2B Reel that works

The most effective B2B short-form video format is the expert insight: someone who genuinely knows something sharing a specific piece of knowledge in 30-60 seconds. Not "thought leadership" — that phrase has been drained of meaning. Specific, actionable knowledge that someone in the target audience can use immediately.

A cybersecurity company posting "Here's the one setting most companies leave on default that creates a vulnerability" will get attention from IT decision-makers. A sales consultancy posting "The question most salespeople ask at minute 12 that kills the deal" will get attention from sales leaders. The format is insight. The delivery is direct. The production is secondary.

The LinkedIn Reel

LinkedIn's video feed is the most underleveraged distribution channel in B2B. The audience is already in professional mode. The content density is lower than Instagram or TikTok, which means less competition for attention. And LinkedIn's algorithm currently rewards video with disproportionate reach relative to other formats.

The LinkedIn Reel should be more substantive than its Instagram equivalent. The audience has higher expectations for professional utility. A 45-60 second insight that's genuinely useful to someone in a specific role will hold attention on LinkedIn longer than the same content on Instagram, where the entertainment expectation is higher.

The credibility signal

B2B Reels work differently from B2C Reels in one critical respect: the credentials of the person speaking matter. In B2C, authenticity often beats authority. In B2B, authority and authenticity need to coexist. The viewer needs to believe both that you know what you're talking about and that you're telling the truth.

The most effective B2B Reels feature actual practitioners — people doing the work, not professional spokespeople. Their expertise is evident in the specificity of what they say. Their authenticity is evident in how they say it.
